Meet Our Founder Team
Unity Rising Foundation was established by a dedicated team of community leaders who share a common vision of empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and creating equitable opportunities for growth and success. Together, our founding team brings diverse experiences, perspectives, and a deep commitment to service, collaboration, and positive community impact. United by a passion for helping others, the team works to guide the organization's mission and ensure that every initiative reflects the values of inclusion, empowerment, and community support.
Halima Mohamud
President & Co-Founder
Registered Social Worker with over 10 years of experience in community-based services, resettlement, and integration. Passionate about advancing equity, supporting underserved communities, and creating opportunities through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Lensa Badaso
Vice-Chair & Co-Founder
Founder of Care for All Home and a dedicated community advocate with experience in senior care, autism awareness, and dementia support. Committed to empowering families through education, outreach, and compassionate community services.
Hagir Sail
Secretary & Co-Founder
Experienced leader in anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives with over a decade of community impact in Calgary. Passionate about advancing social justice, strengthening communities, and creating meaningful opportunities for underrepresented groups.
Halima Farah
Treasurer & Co-Founder
Community advocate, mother, and nonprofit leader committed to supporting underserved communities through education, technology, and capacity-building initiatives. Passionate about fostering collaboration, inclusion, and sustainable community development.
Our Land Acknowledgement
At Unity Rising, we acknowledge the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7 in Southern Alberta, including the Blackfoot Confederacy — comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations — as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stoney Nakoda Nations. We also recognize Calgary, known as Moh’kinsstis in Blackfoot, as home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
At Unity Rising, we recognize the importance of honoring the histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to live, work, gather, and grow on these lands.
